Tweens and Teens: Keeping Strong over the Summer Break

All athletes, no matter their age, need to have the proper training. For student athletes, while it can be great to train them during the season, training outside of the season, such as during the summer months can also be very lucrative to their skill and strength development. In the following guide, we walk you through a few of the top reasons why you should consider sending your tweens and teens to a sports camp this summer.

Boost Comradery, Build Friendships

When training for any sport is shared amongst players, they build new friendships, strengthen existing ones, and have healthy competition. They get to spend time with one another doing what they love but also get to have downtime together where they can get to know one another on a deeper level. The closer the players feel to one another, the better they will be able to work together on the field.

Provide Access to High-Quality Equipment

Many student athletes don't have access to high-quality equipment because it is so expensive or not useful to have all year long. At a sports camp, the players can be properly assessed on high-quality equipment so that their skills can be better utilized during the regular season.

Gain Specific Skillsets

Personalized training can be hard to do when you're training with a team of players. At sports camps, trainers are spending more individual time, and this allows players to be noticed on a more individual basis. Any issues that need to be addressed can be done on a one-on-one basis, so that players can hone in on their skills and better themselves as much as possible.

Provide Strength Training Knowledge

Strength training is a must, and should always be age-appropriate; there is no reason for any tween and younger teen to be maxing out deadlifts, for example. Many players become injured when they work out because they don't know how to do it properly; growth plate injuries and tendon tears are common results of poor form or trying to lift too much weight.

Get training with professionals who can monitor what young athletes are doing with each exercise, and provide guidance on what changes need to be made can help to reduce injuries from occurring during the year. Ensure that players can become as strong as they can in the safest ways possible by taking a few extra steps to remind yourself that slow and steady wins the race!
